GSPO Closes Season with Record Attendance and Superb Performance of John Williams’ Music
Historic Warner Grand Theatre Hosts Hundreds of New Visitors
The Golden State Pops Orchestra brought their fifth season, as the Warner Grand Theatre’s Orchestra-in-Residence, to a rousing close on Saturday June 13, 2009 and attracted the largest audience of their seven year history. By a show of hands, over 50% of the 750 patrons indicated that they were new visitors to the art deco theatre.
To quote the Film Score Monthly Blog: “When you put Steven Allen Fox together with John Williams, you can feel the love. In fact with those two composers’ penchant for changing the way their music is heard, one might venture to say we are given a better concert. Certainly the impact of all this being played in a large, yet intimate theater like the Warner Grand; with the orchestra some 40 feet from you comes over more powerfully than through the binoculars and picnickers ambience at the Hollywood Bowl.”
As a tribute to Maestro Fox’s favorite film composer, GSPO had the honor of bringing the music of John Williams to life. The music for the film Hook introduced Steven to the art of film music, composing and conducting. Patrons heard seldom performed selections from; Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Hook, Angela's Ashes, Star Wars, Schindler's List and Cowboys.
Maestro Fox reminisces about the upcoming 2009/10 season and GSPO’s journey; "Seven years ago GSPO began as a crazy idea, nurtured by four people. Since then, the dream has grown into a thriving company and we've performed for well over 100,000 music lovers, with special guests from the top of the music industry and to standing ovations at almost every concert. It has been an incredible ride. I can't wait to see what the future holds for 'The POPS’ of the West Coast.”
